AMMAIA
- Golfe Club of Marvão
The name Ammaia commes
from an old Roman city (I Centhury) at 2km distance from the Golf
Course.

Ammaia was the
first Golf Course built in the Alentejo province and is situated in
the middle of "Serra de São Mamede Natural Park".
The spectacular walled town of "Marvão" (candidate
to UNESCO World Heritage) is only 5km away and the beautiful historical
town of "Castelo de Vide" is only at 6km from the course.
The front nine
holes at Ammaia are flat, but with undulated fairways, often obliging
the player to a difficult "stance". Three holes are caracterized
by water hazards. Although the course is not very long, it is well
known for its difficults greens, generaly fast and hard to read.

The back nine
are considerable more diffícult and 4 holes are situated on
the top of the hill. They are the most beautifful holles of the course,
but also the most challenging ones. The 13th hole, "ex-libris"
of the course, is a superb par 3 with the green protected by frontal
and lateral water and 2 bunkers. The view over Marvão and the
valley is breathtaking.
Ammaia Golf Course
has a 300 meters longer Driving-Range, with 14 positions, 6 of them
covered and carpeted. There is a Putting-Green, and Bunker and a 9
holes "Pitch und Putt" Golf Academy with distances between
50 and 90 meters.
In 1999 "Europeen
Golf" Magazine classified Ammaia the 7th most beautiful Golf
Course in Portugal. The Portuguese Golf Federation distinguished Ammaia
as "Golf Course of the Year" in 2000.
